During the COVID-19 Crisis as we practice social distancing, the New Salem Institute classes is now offered on a digital platform so that members can still connect and learn together. Virtual classes will be offered each Sunday at 9:30 am (8:30 am) until we meet again in person.

SUMMER 2020 TERM - Thematic Adult Courses (All students must register.):
  1. D-FREE: Breaking Free from Financial Slavery - Bro. Cordell Dillon will facilitate this 12-week Christian-focused course with strategies for economic empowerment and debt elimination. If you have not taken the course, we hope you will consider this as a resource from the church that helps not just get your spiritual life together, but also your financial life also.
  2. POVERTY, RACISM, and THE CHURCH - Bro. Robert Caldwell from Answer Poverty will lead a 4-week class where participants will learn the history of racism in the American church, as well as understanding key definitions and vocabulary necessary to doing this work. Participants will then be able to identify areas of poverty and race in the church and consider strategies to eliminate. You can join the class cycle in June, July, or August.
  3. LIBERATION THEOLOGY - Liberation Theology Our church's own theologians and leading clergy, Rev. Landon J. Adams, Rev. Kyle Brooks, Min. Jennifer Fowler, and Dr. TaNikka Sheppard will lead this interactive engagement on exploring how our faith and theology (how we think about our faith) shapes and motivates us to action in real time. Participants will think through our current events and about how the church and the people of the church provide leadership in the world and how to make sense of what is happening in the world. It is putting feet on our prayers and action to our theology.
